Puebla de Alcocer and its Middle-age Castle (“Castillo”) is a must-see sight. Our rural house is just at 50 Kms away from Guadalupe, with its prominent Monastery, right in the region of Las Villuercas. At 60 km away you can get to Villanueva, Don Benito and Medellín; you can reach Trujillo within 80 Kms, and you can even visit the Roman city of Mérida in less than 100 Kms! You will also enjoy a varied and rich gastronomic offer.Water activities
If water activities are your passion (fishing, pirogue or just going to the beach), you need to know that La Siberia Extremeña is the Spanish region with most kilometers of fresh water! At only 3 Kms from our house, you can enjoy the wonderful Calicantos Beach, which is in the Orellana Reservoir tail, where small boats can go in. At 15 Kms away, you can reach Puerto Peña, which has access to García Sola Reservoir. You can also visit the reservoirs of Cíjara, Serena and Zújar around us. In all of these reservoirs you can fish pikes (some of them are huge!), black-bass, pumpkinseeds, common barbels or carps.Fauna And Nature
Not only birds, the fauna of La Siberia Extremeña is large. You can see otters, mountain cats, shrews, pine martens, deers, roe deers, fallow deers, etc., as well as a great variety of reptiles, amphibians and insects. “La Berrea”, the Deer Bellow, is a dramatic spectacle in autumn. You will also enjoy an extensive flora, and a great variety of orchids stands out. The region has an excellent natural environment.Birdwatching
If you love ornithology, you are lucky: we are just in the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPAs) Embalse de Orellana y Sierra de Pela. Around 15 km, you can watch all kind of birds: birds of prey and other rock birds (especially, the Black Stork), ducks and wader birds, steppe birds, urban birds (in particular, some Lesser Kestrel colonies), etc. Of note, thousands of cranes migrate here in winter!
